Trump Threatens Stadium Deal Over Washington Commanders Name
President Donald Trump intensified his campaign to revive the “Redskins” moniker for Washington’s NFL team, threatening to block a new stadium deal if the Washington Commanders refuse to revert to their former name.
The warning came via Truth Social on Sunday, where Trump declared he may withhold federal support for the stadium project unless the team ditches the “ridiculous moniker.”

“It’s a great piece of property, so we’ll see. But if I can help them out, I would,” Trump said, noting that the federal government still has some control over the land, despite a 2024 Congressional bill transferring ownership to DC.
