Bucs Place 450-Pound Rookie Desmond Watson on Non-Football Injury List
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have placed undrafted rookie defensive tackle Desmond Watson on the non-football injury (NFI) list due to concerns about his weight.
Watson, 22, stood 6-foot-6 and weighed 464 pounds when the Bucs signed him following the 2025 NFL Draft. Although he has trimmed down to around 450 pounds, it’s still not enough for the team to clear him for training camp.

Head coach Todd Bowles explained the decision, saying:
“It’s just about trying to get him better, to be a healthier player and getting him on the field a little more,” Bowles told reporters Wednesday.
Bowles added that Watson is working hard to reach his target weight and that the team is committed to helping him succeed:
“He’s working at it, and we’re working with him. That’s all you can ask right now.”
